Congratulations to the most wonderful Søstjerneskolen on your 11th birthday
When I founded the school in 2014, the vision was to create a school offer where autistic students could tolerate being, and where many years of struggle and school absenteeism could be alleviated.
Where students could learn with high academic standards and with great consideration for their nervous system – a learning environment where they could recover from what was difficult, and where life could be filled with meaning again.
It succeeded and today Søstjerneskolen can celebrate its 11th birthday among students, relatives and staff.
3 years ago, I myself stopped at Søstjerneskolen and have shifted focus from Søstjerneskolen as an area of intervention, to now spreading the same principles throughout the country.
I wish to help create a Public School that suits the children – and not where they have to be forced to fit in!
A Public School where autistic students can learn in tune with their neuroprofile, with consideration for their sensory processing, and where teachers and educators know a lot about autism and ADHD and have strategies to cope with most things.
Where social communities are built around concrete and meaningful activities and where, as an autistic student, one can immerse oneself early in the subjects that reflect one’s talents.
I know it can be done, because Søstjerneskolen is exactly such a school. A self-governing institution under the Public School Act. Operated according to all legal provisions – with huge heart and out-of-the-box thinking.
Thanks to Dan S. Rasmussen, who has been in charge of Søstjerneskolen for the past 7-8 years and congratulations on another 5 years as suppliers in VISO’s supplier network.
Long live The Good School – wherever it is in the country.
