To be different – not wrong!

To be different – not wrong!

So as Christmas approaches and it’s time for reflection on the past year, various thoughts come to mind.

I hope the new year brings with it acceptance of neurodiversity – in all ages, institutions, workplaces, social strata, and families.

To be different – not wrong!

So as Christmas approaches and it’s time to reflect on the year gone by, various thoughts come to mind.

I hope the New Year brings with it the acceptance of neurodiversity – in all ages, institutions, workplaces, societal layers, and families.

There is nothing new in diversity being a strength. But if the individual is judged and condemned for not being and not being able to do like others – in schools, institutions, workplaces, and families, then the strength that could have been a gift to the community is broken down.

No one can choose the development of their own brain or what personality they develop. It happens so early in our lives in the years that form and shape us.

But we can all choose to accept how different some of us are. And create schools and workplaces that support diversity without first making us feel wrong.

Diagnoses arise in the individual’s encounter with surroundings that do not respect diversity.

If you think too many diagnoses are given, then look at how tolerant and inclusive you are towards people who have different kinds of brains than your own!

When we create a society that genuinely and truly has room for everyone with the diversity we all have – then no one is wrong anymore.

Then, without problems in their personality, one can be autistic, ADHD, highly gifted, or in need of more of something, dyslexic, dyscalculic, introverted, extroverted, or all the other conditions one can diagnose or simply accept.

It is not when one receives the diagnosis that one becomes autistic – one was from the start. It is when one is pressured more than one can handle, without respect for one’s diversity, that the complex nature of autism becomes clear to all.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 💜🎉
